Today, the proportion of forest that has not previously been affected by clear-cut logging only accounts for around 30 per cent of the total area of productive forest in Norway.
Only 2.8% of the Norwegian forest landscape is older than 160 years.
No less than 84 percent of the threatened species in forests are found in biologically older forests.
Clear-cut logging leads to great loss of habitat for countless species and creates a monoculture in the forest as multi-aged forests contain more species than planted forests.
What and whose priorities determine what constitutes a forest and dictates it’s future?
